Definition:
  • Sentencing expanding is adding words or phrases to sentences to add detail, it may describe when the sentence took place, how something took place, or add additional information. Types of phrases include appositive, absolute,infinitive, prepositional, participle, past participle, adjective clauses, and adverb clauses.


Example:
  • Bob got some bait for the hook
  • Quickly, Bob got some bait for the hook

  • The fish had tried to escape by swimming toward the shore.
  • Pursued by sharks, the fish had tried to escape by swimming toward the shore.
